    Life @ GE - [

Just finished my second week as GE FMP Intern @CTP

During the orientation, we’re told that we would be appraised by so-called ‘PIE criteria’, which stands for Performance, Image and Exposure.

The best thing as a FMP Intern is that you can get bunds of precious opportunities of training and meeting big bosses. I doubt I’ll ever get these chances if being a PTA.

    Experienced Events:

    7.20-7.21 EID Orientation @ CTC

Met all kinds of XXXPs, FMP(Financial Management Program), EHSLP(Environment, Health & Security Leadership Program), IMLP(Information Management Program), CLP(Commercial Leadership Program) etc.  Panel discussions, work shop, EHS & compliance training, team building. Got acquainted with guys from diversified background: aviation, energy, water, oil, IT…fond of their low-key personality. Always put their feet on the ground, never lavishing or boasting like IB or consulting people, do have logical thinking and always put forward useful proposals instead of paying lip service.

7.22 Roundtable with Sud Amit(Asian FMP HR Manager, graduated from FMP&CAS) @CTP

Never imagine that full-time FMPs are that quiet. We interns met Amit just the day before and brought out so many questions. Sharp contrast, hah?

7.26 Excellent in Excel- 1st Training Session @CTP

I missed it, for I can’t log on corporate outlook calendar using my personal laptop. God WHEN can I get my laptop?! The outsourcing IT department is SOOOOO efficient!

7.29 One-on-one talk with Stewart Chen(Corporate HR Manager, former HR Manager of Bank of America)

I know he’s talkative, but I don’t know he’s that talkative, lol. The scheduled half-an-hour one-on-one talk lengthened, lengthened and lengthened, only came into a halt because someone called to mentioned he’d missed a con-call@@

Got some useful advice on choosing banking or finance as the start-point of career.  And he honestly told me that he wanted us to be full-time FMPs, so his advice is more or less like a selling pitch, so do take a percentage off on it.

I have to admit that Stewart got all the charisma that a talented HR should get.

7.30 Roundtable with Ken Friesen(Lighting Global CFO, graduated from FMP&CAS) @宜山路900GE C&I Business

Ken is born and brought up in Canada, and has been with GE for 16 years. Compared with Amit, he’s not that approachable, kind of arrogant. But he has all it needs to be arrogant. This time questions poured around the roundtable, which is actually square><, and I wonder is it because Stewart is with us this time and not the last time.

After the roundtable we had Pizza Hut for dinner. That reminded all of us of the two-hour-case in workshop. At that time no one is in the mood of devour , but now it’s different. The chaos is that we took a taxi back to CTP, which cost 90 RMB and is supposed to be reimbursed. But now due to the integrity compliance policy, we have a long odyssey to go to get the imbursement.

7.31-8.1 FMP Performance Spanish dance rehearsal @财大

Learning the Spanish dance ”The fire of Spain”, which we’ll perform on the FMP conference. One word can conclude the 48 hours: exhausted!

My limbs, especially my right arm, seemed not to be mine any more. Oh God, 10 more rehearsals around the corner, how can I wheather that?

Please please please give me the background music——”I WILL SURVIVE”

    8.5 Mid-term Report Out  9:00-12:00@CTP Water Lily

8.6 Excellent in Excel- 2nd Training Session @CTP

     Would-Come-Events:

8.11 Excellent in Excel- 3th Training Session @CTP

    8.19 FMP Conference

    8.27 Final report out

    September Interview -with Finance Manager

October Interview with CFO to judge whether you can get full-time FMP offer

    Etc.

    To be continued.
